What is live in 2026

In 2026, remote assistance is already used in industrial settings. A worker can share a live camera view with an expert, receive a checklist, or discuss a problem over audio and video. Tablets and rugged phones are common starting points; some organizations also use smart glasses or other wearable displays.

These tools do not make every repair remote. Camera position, lighting, noise, network coverage, protective equipment, and the complexity of the task all affect whether an expert can help. Digital annotations can also be useful without being perfectly locked to a physical object.

VR is established for training and simulation, especially when people need to practise a procedure before encountering the real situation. It is usually not the right first tool for a technician working beside an open gearbox.

A credible first trial at Quay Mill could use one documented repair procedure, a live video link to an expert, and a paper or digital fallback. A wearable display should be added only if it improves the task in real conditions.
