A move nobody scripted

In 2016 a Go program played a move (later famous as Move 37) that even the world’s best players did not see coming. Later versions learned by playing themselves, with no human games as the teacher. That is a real advance: help that is not just a faster lookup of what people already did.

It still is not Yara’s chair. A surprise move on a board has a referee. A surprise sentence in a housing file needs an owner who can say why it stands.

Use this as evidence that the helper can be more than a template. Do not use it as a reason to paste. The invent is still the process: when the draft may surprise, who looks.

The tempting mistake is to tell the Go story and skip the lobby. The lobby is the class.
