Ocean patches need a different machine

Cleaning a big floating patch in the open ocean is not a bigger river catch. It is a different place and a different machine.

Public guides describe a floating barrier on the order of a couple of kilometers, towed slowly between two vessels, with a submerged screen that meets floating plastic and guides it into a retention zone that can be hauled aboard.

Ocean barrier towed by two vessels
Two ships tow a long floating ocean barrier to gather plastic already at sea.

That is ship work plus a large marine structure — not a riverside conveyor. It aims at floating legacy plastic already trapped in patches. It does not replace catching trash in rivers before it escapes.

Honest status note: ocean extraction campaigns can pause while mapping and redesign continue. Always check dated primary pages before teaching “currently scooping.”
