Nous Portal

Last updated: 2026-08-12

What a Portal subscription actually changes

Does Portal move Hermes toward a vendor-packaged agent, or only change the Model band plus a few rented tools?

Nous Portal is “the recommended way to run Hermes Agent”: one OAuth for models + Tool Gateway.[9] Fast path: hermes setup --portal.

Included (docs 2026-08-25):

What Portal does not do (confirmed by absence in official pages):

So: Portal is a subscription plane on Model + selected Tools + optional Host. The harness remains yours.

If Portal lapses: local harness + BYOK/local models still run. Gateway tools that were Portal-proxied stop. Cloud Agent stops.

What SuperGrok / Cursor inclusion actually changes

Is Grok Bot “included with the plan,” or metered on top?

Launch eligibility: SuperGrok Plus/Heavy and Cursor Pro+/Ultra/Teams.[1][4] 21 Aug expansion restated the same family of plans.[24]

Teams/enterprise docs: Standard and Premium seats include a weekly Grok Bot usage allowance; invoices combine Cursor and Grok Bot; no Grok Bot-specific spend cap yet; usage analytics show the actual serving model including failover.[5]

VentureBeat and other secondary pieces quoted Cursor Ultra ~$200/mo and various SuperGrok Heavy bundles; treat pricing dollars as secondary and re-check x.ai/pricing / Cursor dashboard before any buy.[17] Official mechanism: bundled access + usage allowance + combined invoice.

No model picker is a procurement fact, not a preference: subprocessors are SpaceXAI-managed; contracts that limit subprocessors must talk to the account team before rollout.[5]

Privacy: Legacy Privacy Mode is a hard block. Training opt-out follows Cursor settings.[5][19]

Lock-in surfaces (own vs rent)

What can you take with you, and what is glued to identity?

Surface Grok Bot Hermes + Portal
Model Rent, non-swappable in-product Rent via Portal or swap off Portal
Harness loop Rent (closed) Own (MIT)
Skills Account plugins / saved skills Files / hub / git — own
Memory Bot memory in vendor store Profile files + pluggable providers — mostly own
Computer disk /workspace on vendor VM Your disk / your VPS / Cloud container
Logins Shared browser on VM Per profile; you hold tokens
Looking glass Cursor-identity apps Many glasses
Evidence / audit Coming for org actions[5] Session JSONL you can export
Exit drill Export not documented in fetched pages hermes sessions export, profile tar.gz, skill folders

Suite gravity: Grok Bot is a Cursor-shaped product (SSO, MCP policy, privacy modes, Cloud Agents toggle). Hermes Portal is Nous-shaped but the core agent is still MIT.

Economics as a trend (not a price list)

Is the compounding object tokens, computer-hours, or know-how?

Trend classification: Too data-poor to classify as exponential for “agent product shipping speed” as a single metric. What we can say:

Community Reddit-style claims about Portal $20 vs $200 credit multipliers are signal, not invoice truth.

Decision question

If you need a coworker who stays in Gmail overnight and you accept Cursor gravity: Grok Bot.

If you need swap models, own skills, Linux, gateway into the tools you already chat in, and you will operate a host: Hermes. Portal makes that path less painful, not the same product.
