A colonoscopy is special because it can do two jobs in one sitting: look carefully, and treat what it finds (remove early growths) before the patient goes home.
Stool tests or scans may raise a flag. They do not snare the growth themselves. Same-visit treatment is why thorough looking matters so much.
Clinics track how often they find adenomas (early growths) as a quality signal. A common U.S. priority target is finding at least one adenoma in more than 35% of eligible exams (ACG/ASGE 2024 quality indicators). Higher is not automatic proof of a new machine — case mix and technique also move the number.
The invent-relevant job is not “a cooler camera.” It is a thorough look plus treatment in one visit when the scope will stay steady enough to finish.
